Story
My humans’ boss bought me for her daughter as an Easter present. I have heard my humans say that Easter isn’t a good time to give bunnies as gifts, but whatever, otherwise I wouldn’t be here right? She got me well before Easter and put me into a small box. My water magically came through a hole; it was pretty exciting. I didn’t eat at first, though, because a lot of stuff was happening that I didn’t quite understand, and I think that may have distressed the humans.
Anyway, she was going to keep me at the bookstore where my humans work, sitting all alone in the back room, with the assumption that any of the clerks (besides my humans) would want to play with me. There was one really tall guy who was just as jittery as I was, and when the boss lady put me near him, it frightened me quite a bit. She liked to pick me up and pet me, though, so I was okay with her. I was a little afraid of the prospect of her daughter because even though I’m a little kid still, I know that human kids scream and that’s pretty scary. There was one day that I ran around the bookstore and it was fun! I got to see all the books - those bookshelves are really tall. I wonder how the humans can handle it, so looming as they are. I guess they’re pretty big in their own rights, though.
Boss lady was still pretty uncertain about keeping me there, and I really didn’t want to be there. It was fun running through the store but then they stuck me in a box and put me in a room with a little boy. The boy was fun until he was done with me; then he put something on my box so I couldn’t jump out, turned off the lights, and left. It was terrifying!
So these two kind of attractive looking, very hairy humans offered to keep me at their house for the week and a half before Easter, at which point I was to be transported to the boss lady’s house. At first they kept me in the box, but then I was moved into a much larger, much more comfortable apartment. I decided to let them live with me. Within my apartment, there’s a cage where I sleep, eat, and find water. I have a door on the top which I can’t quite reach yet and a door on the side which they sometimes open for me so I can come out. They apparently don’t understand that the big apartment is mine and I’m sharing it with them, but I’m sure I can train them at some point.
After just a few days, they stopped being so hesitant around me and started to let me crawl all over them. My male human let me sometimes eat the hair on his face, until he read on the Internet that that’s bad for me. (So he says. I still love it and try to get at it as much as I can.) The female human has a lot of hair on her head, but she doesn’t let me nip at that at all.
So I spent a lot of my time rummaging through things that were obviously placed there just for me to explore and discover. My favorite corner of the apartment is by the window next to a large tower of plastic squares. I don’t know what the humans use those for, but I like sitting on them. Next to my corner is a really big hidden area which is blocked by something. I really want to get back there! There are lots of wires and things to look at and lick, but my humans always ruin the fun.
So anyway, my male human (the one with the hairy face) took be back to the bookstore. I couldn’t figure out why, because by then I had forgotten that I was promised to a screaming child, so I was kind of scared when he handed me over to the boss lady. I got into the car with her and left, and I thought I’d never see my big, fun apartment again! I was very upset. It was long after that, though, that she brought me back to the bookstore, and I was reunited with my human! It was a pointless, tricky trip if you ask me, but they seem to think it was okay. Something about finding another bunny, as if anyone could possibly be cuter than me.
So I went home again with the hairy human and I’ve been here ever since! Life is pretty good. They let me out twice a day if they can (sometimes they come home looking utterly exhausted, and even though I’m really fun to hang out with I can see why they wouldn’t want to run around and play - they’re so old!).
By the way - my humans? They have tons of bookshelves too! Some of theirs are closer to the ground so I can even sit next to the books when I want to. Sometimes the girl human gets scared when I lick the spines; she thinks I’m eating them. Some day they’ll understand my appreciation for the books, though. I look so great next to them, and I’m so comfortable in the little cubby holes provided for them!
